Times are Tough

Well as everyone knows, times are getting tough now. Things really haven't been that bad for me until I a realization came crashing down on me on Friday. I work for a fortune.500.company and as the company is still doing well and profiting, the only way to keep out profits up is to reduce expenditures. They started this a few weeks ago by laying off 40 people from the manufacturing floor. This is typical for this time of year, but normally not quite as many and with sales down a little it's expected. I mean if there isn't product to be made, then why pay the people to stand around and do nothing. Well Friday a big shock hit. A meeting was called because a worker in a different section of my department was laid off. And two other whom I've worked closely with on projects from other departments. This really hit home in 2 ways...

1) I am the low man on the pole in my department. There are only 4 engineers here and well the rest of them have been here 20+ years, me, a measly 5 in April

2) If they decided to lay me off before I go on maternity leave they don't have to give me my paid maternity leave. This scares the crap out of me because I don't know how we'd afford thing with our little girl and only B's income!

Please pray that this is the end of our cut-backs here and that I will continue to have a job long after our little girl is born!

In baby news, I went for my Glucose Tolerance Test today (GTT). I'm hoping and praying that I passed because the amount of sugar in that drink was enough to make me feel sick to my stomach and she said that if I have to come back for the 3 hour test it's the same amount of liquid with twice the sugar in it. Oh my I don't think I could handle that. Oh and the only flavor she had was orange. This was terrible because of all things I don't like, it's orange flavored things, not koo-laid, soda, Gatorade, any of it. And I only drink orange juice once in a while. So I closed my eyes and gulped as fast as I could! On a positive note, she was great at taking blood. I didn't even really feel a prick when she put the needle in and you can barely even see a mark an hour later!

And Being that you didn't get to see these Friday...
